Geography
Geography is studied from year 4 to year 8 and at the highest level for Common Entrance and Scholarships. Pupils learn about the local area and study geographical issues abroad like fair trade and the country of Brazil. The European Union and transport prove to be popular topics in year five especially where websites can be investigated. Map skills and the concept of sustainable development are topics that are relevant to today’s landscape while an assessed project is required in year eight as a part of Common Entrance. Staff make regular use of geographical issues in the news and pupils see that the fast pace of the world needs careful management. The school operates a green team and eco team to help foster a tidy environment and to encourage sensible resource use. Scholarship papers are the ultimate challenge in year eight with several past pupils gaining top marks for local and regional independent schools.
