French
French at King’s House starts in the Nursery Department with half an hour a week of French songs and games. Then vocabulary is further extended in the Junior Department with 30 minutes each week through more fun and varied activities. In the Senior Department, French is studied by all boys in Years 4 to 8. We use the Encore Tricolore text books. As well as focusing on the French language, we also work on dictionary skills and enjoy watching French cartoons and films.
Every year there is a compulsory trip organised to Normandy for the whole of Year 7 to practise their French and learn about the French culture. The do activities such as mountain biking and orienteering and stay in a gite. They also visit the landing beaches, the Bayeux tapestry museum and its cathedral, a goat cheese farm and go shopping to a local market. The 43 boys and 4 staff have a fantastic time.
At the end of Year 8, all King’s House boys sit either the Common Entrance examination or the Scholarship examination in French with tremendous results.
