Year 7 Trip to France 2010
Year 7 French Trip 2010
By Harry Hutton 7G
On the 28th February, Year 7 left school to embark on an exciting trip to France. We were there for 5 days and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.
We left school at 6.30 pm as the ferry was due to leave at 10.00 pm. In the early hours we arrived at Gîte where we were welcomed by Solène who was our host for the week. We then had a huge breakfast and prepared for the first day of activities.
The first day was probably the toughest physically out of all the days. In the morning we went mountain biking where we travelled into the woods and got really wet and muddy. After lunch we went orienteering. My team came second, but we all had a great time. Once we returned to Gîte we played a game of rugby. Mr Picknett and Mr Fildes joined in so it was even better. After dinner we had to write in our journal about the excursions during the day.
The next day after breakfast we headed to see the beaches where D-Day happened. We also saw a film at the 360 degree cinema which helped us imagine what D-Day was like for the soldiers. After a picnic lunch we went to Aromanche then to an American WW2 cemetery. We saw a short film then got to look around the graves. It was moving as to how many soldiers had died.
On Wednesday we went to Bayeux. We were given a questionnaire with all the answers hidden around Bayeux. That morning we also visited the cathedral which was beautiful. A tour guide showed us around and I learnt some very interesting facts. After lunch we saw the Bayeux Tapestry. It was about the Battle of Hastings. It was nice because we had just covered the Battle of Hastings in our History lessons.
On the penultimate day we visited a market. We had to buy our lunches from the market using 4 Euros! However we were supplied with baguettes, butter and drinks. I bought some Brie and Saucisson for my baguette and it was delicious. After lunch we went to a goats cheese farm. We got to hold the goats and a few boys got to drink milk straight from the goat. At the end we all got to try goats cheese and most of us bought cheese for our families.
On the final day we only did activities in the morning. We did a treasure hunt and circus activities. They were both great fun. After lunch we departed leaving Solène and the Gîte. We arrived back home at 11.30 pm so it was a late night for us all.
It is fair to say we all had a great time and would happily go back, but sadly, that next Monday morning we weren't in France but back in school, back in rainy old England.
