NEWSLETTER 25 JUNE

Dear Parents
Theme week has been a huge success as always with Year 4   producing a play in a week (I haven't seen it yet but the rehearsals have been hilarious to catch up with).  Year 5 have been very busy on an art and design themed week here at school and the Years 6, 7 and 8 have been off site enjoying new challenges at activity centres around the country. Thank you to all the staff for giving up their week and   putting in all the extra work required to make the week go so smoothly.
Thank you also to the Junior Department staff for setting up a wonderful open evening on Thursday. The Junior Department looked fantastic this afternoon, with beautiful displays of work all around, thank you to all the staff for working so hard to get it all looking so lovely.
Mrs Stephanie Piper

FROM THE JUNIOR DEPARTMENT
This has been a wonderful week in the Junior Department as we have welcomed all the new boys joining Reception into school for a visit.  They all coped beautifully and the Reception staff made them feel very at home so a huge thank you to them.  It is the nature of a school that as one new group arrives, another one leaves, and we are nearing the end of the present Year 3 in the Junior Department.  It is wonderful to see their confidence and excitement about moving to the Senior Department and a great beauty of King's House is that we will all be able to see them continue to progress and flourish there.
Our DT challenge at the beginning of the week was a huge   success with all the boys taking part so enthusiastically.  Thank you to Miss Edwards for organising this super day and very well done to all the boys.
Our Open Evening is a very special event here and I am so grateful to the staff who have worked so hard to ensure that everywhere looked super, with excellent displays of all your sons' fantastic work. Thank you all for coming and helping to celebrate our school.  Onwards to the last week of term and see you all at the Penalty Shootout!

FROM THE NURSERY DEPARTMENT
One of the highlights of the Nursery year is our trip to the fire station and last Monday a large party of Nursery children with Mummies, Daddies and younger siblings all invaded Richmond Fire Station with great excitement.  The children were treated to a fascinating tour of the fire station and were then invited to climb inside the fire engine, examine the fire fighting equipment and, best of all, squirt the high pressure hoses.  There were great cheers as the firemen demonstrated an emergency exit by sliding down the pole and even more cheering when Mrs O'Brien and Mrs Kennell raced to change in to the fireman's uniforms.  The children, parents and teachers all had a wonderful morning and we would all like to say a huge thank you to all the brave fire-fighters at Richmond Fire Station who gave up their time for us.
As our year comes to an end there are many preparations for next year.  Our Nursery boys have now all visited their Reception teachers and our Nursery girls were treated to a visit from the Old Vicarage Reception staff.  They are all looking forward to their new adventures next year and we are confident that they will delight and amaze their new teachers.
Mrs O'Brien is making preparations for her trip to Rwanda to visit the new Nursery site.  She has been overwhelmed by the kind donations of small toys from all the Nursery children.  Mrs O'Brien will be taking all your kind gifts out to Rwanda in August and will report back in September.  A special mention must go to Lucian Mischker, who listened very carefully to our session on the Rwandan Nursery and their lack of toys.  He went home, emptied his money box and gave all his savings to Mrs O'Brien to buy toys for the children.  Thank you to Lucian, we are all so enormously proud of your kind and touching gesture.
As this is the last newsletter of the year, I know all the staff would like to join me in thanking all the Nursery families for their tremendous support this year. We are going to miss our Nursery leavers enormously, but look forward to watching them mature and develop in the years ahead throughout the school.  To our Nursery girls - please do come back to visit us, we wish you well in your new schools.
Have a wonderful Summer!
