Friends of King's House

Dear Parents

The Friends of King's House is a parents' organisation set up to raise money for the school and its associated charities.   Apart from raising money for extra equipment for the children, perhaps more importantly our role is to provide a forum for social events which bind our school community together and help give the children a sense that their school life is important and involves the whole family.

Last year at the Friends ran several successful events: two quiz evenings; the school fete and a fundraising ball in the beautiful surroundings of Syon House.  The money raised over the years been used for various projects around the school.  Recently, we helped to upgrade both the Junior and Senior Department playgrounds and supported the boys who compete for King's House by providing warm up suits much needed by the teams in the winter (as any parent who has stood on the touchline in freezing temperatures will testify!).  We have also provided musical equipment for the Junior Department and new chess boards for our talented chess players whose success in putting King's House on the UK chess map has done much to encourage younger boys in the game.

We have also raised significant funds for our brother school King's House Rwanda (Rwanda Aid)  Rwanda Aid had hoped that after our Ball, they might be able to build the first of their houses in their children's village (costing £5,000).  We are delighted that the level of funds raised means that they have the financial security to do so much more.

Each year in October several members of the Committee finish their 3 year tenure on the Committee and so we are always interested to hear from people who might be interested in joining the committee. You would be involved in organising and running fundraising activities for the Friends Association and could take on a specific role on the Committee: Chairing the Committee, Treasury, Secretariat, Catering, Bar Co-Ordination, Web-site management, Merchandise and Form Rep liaison. You would need to be computer literate, have some of the skills listed above and be happy to attend a maximum of 2 or 3 evening meetings a term as well as being able to help out at events. Although the majority of the committee is mums, dads are particularly welcome to join! If you are interested in joining please e-mail the Friends Chairman: Sally Stephens email:  sastephens@btopenworld.com

Feedback to the Friends Committee

It is always really helpful to receive feedback from parents regarding past events and also suggestions for future events. If you have any comments that you would like to pass on to the Committee, please feel free to e-mail the Friends' Chairman Sally Stephens email: sastephens@btopenworld.com or the Secretary, Jacqueline Kovalevsky: jrae@issimo.co.uk
