Kings House School Eco Schools Award

Eco Schools Award

This Spring term, the boys are starting some growing projects, starting with the Year 4s growing their own potatoes from seed.  Here is the nationwide project we are taking part in:

Keep an eye on this page to see how the potatoes are getting on and how well the boys look after them!

Schools work towards gaining one of three awards - Bronze, Silver and the prestigious Green Flag award, which symbolises excellence in the field of environmental activity.  Bronze and Silver are both self accredited through this website and Green Flag is externally assessed by ENCAMS.

The Action Team includes: pupils chosen (or elected) to represent different year groups and the whole school plus a member of staff.  Also encouraged to be included are: the Head or a member of the SMT, school bursar, other teachers, governor, parent, non-teaching staff members, caretaker or site manager, representative from the local authorities and member of the local community.

The Environmental Review is carried out by the pupils themselves. It should cover: litter; waste minimisation and recycling; energy; school grounds/biodiversity; water use; pupil activities; healthy living; transport; global perspective.

The Action Plan is core to the work of an Eco-School and should be developed using the results of your Environmental Review.

Involving the whole school and wider community is one of the best ways of holding a regular Day of Action. For instance, like the Switch-Off Fortnight (2nd to 13th November 2009).

King's House School are very proud to have been awarded a Bronze Certificate in recognition of the school working towards an Eco Sustainable life style.
