MATHS DEPARTMENT
One of the joys of teaching maths at King's House is the amazing progress we see over our boys' time here. They join us in the Junior Department barely able to count to 10 on their fingers. Fast forward to Common Entrance at 13+ and they have a sound knowledge of geometry, data handling, number work and algebra. They can solve simultaneous equations, divide fractions by fractions and appreciate the genius of Pythagoras. Quite a journey!
The Common Entrance syllabus comprises of three main areas -Number and Algebra; Shape, Space and Measures; Handling Data. Maths is considered a core subject, which means that, in addition to 13+ Common Entrance, we also prepare boys for 11+ screenings required by a number of the London day schools.
We use a variety of text books, complemented by some excellent ICT resources. Puzzles, games and project work are also built into our teaching to help bring the subject alive.
