YEAR 4 GEOGRAPHY

WORLD WEATHER AND SEASONS
At the start of term, we learnt about the main weather elements and how to measure them. We measured the rain, temperature, wind speed and direction using the correct instruments out in the playground.
We have written stories set during terrible weather conditions and also written poetry inspired by our work on the changing seasons.

CASE STUDY: LLANDUDNO
Recently, we have been studying the contrasting UK locality of Llandudno, Wales. We investigated the differences and similarities between Llandudno and Richmond in terms of physical and human features, employment, landscape and leisure activities. We've drawn field sketches of the view in all compass directions using our and even undertaken a traffic survey from the comfort of our own classroom, using the live video link.

THE KHS WORMS AND COMPOSTER
Year 4 studies on Environmental Issues last term, inspired a new mission in school to recycle food waste. We have since bought a composting bin and a wormery to deal with our fruit peelings gathered in by the faithful Green Team monitors from break times. As from summer 2009, we will aim to recycle all of our break time food waste and 1/5 of the kitchen's weekly food waste too. We'll give the worms time to settle in to their new home and get breaking down the food efficiently before we add more kitchen scraps in.
